Thought of the Day September 15, 2015

By 3:42 PM

On this Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows we have an opportunity to reflect on the hidden sorrows Our Lady endured as the Mother of the Christ. From the time of Simeon's prophecy that a sword would pierce her heart to the actualization of that prophecy at the foot of the cross, Mary entered into the mystery of the sufferings of her son, embracing the will of the Father like Jesus. For Jesus, the will of the Father was the focus; the cross was the outcome. For Mary, the will of the Father was essential, even if it meant enduring the loss of Jesus on the cross. Like them and in the thoughts of Paul, we are called to join our sorrows to that of Jesus and Mary in accord with the will of the Father.
