Thought of the Day March 5, 2025 Not fury, but mercy
Psalms 6:2-3 “O Lord, do not rebuke me in your fury, nor chastise me in your anger. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones have become disturbed,”
The Psalmist is aware of his sins. He knows that his sins separate him from God and that he deserves the wrath of God. He pleads for mercy, not judgment, for healing, not chastisement. As we begin this new Lenten journey, we need to confront our own sins through repentance and conversion of heart, so that we too can experience God’s mercy and not the justice we deserve. For God does not desire the death of the sinner, but that he returns to the Lord with sincere repentance. God desires us to live with him now and eternally. But sin blocks that. Lent is another grace time in our spiritual journey.
