Thought of the Day November 27, 2024 To die is to gain
"I do not fear death, for I have already died once. To live is Christ, to die is gain.” St. Edmund Campion (1540-1581)
Death
is a process in the life-death-life cycle of every human being. We are given
life in the womb of our mother. Then we have to die to that life, in order to
live our own human life. When we were baptized, we died to a life of alienation
from God and began a new life of relationship with God. Throughout our human
existence in a real but unperceived way old cells are dying and new cells are
coming to life. Each death brings new life. So with all this life-death-life
process, why does our physical death make us fearful? If we are living in
Christ now, death will be another instant in a cycle of life. This time eternal
life. The only time we should fear death
is when we are living in sin. For if we die alienated from God, then that death
will be an eternal death.
