Thought of the Day December 20, 2021 O Key of David

By 12:33 PM

O Key of David, opening the gates of God’s eternal Kingdom: come and free the prisoners of darkness!

One of the titles of Jesus, our Messiah, is Son of David, indicating that he is of the royal line of David. He has come to established the eternal Kingdom which God promised to David. When people used this term, applying it to Jesus, they were acknowledging that he was the promised Messiah. Another title is Key of David. We read these words of the angel to the community of believers in Philadelphia  in the Book of Revelation. "The holy one, the true, who holds the key of David, who opens and no one shall close, who closes and no one shall open." (Revelatons 3:7) Jesus is the one who, through his death and resurrection, opens up the doors of the heavenly community. There is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ. He alone can deliver us from the bondage of sinful darkness and bring us into the freedom of eternal light and life. We cry out, O Key of David, have mercy upon us. You alone are our hope and salvation.
