It is not what we do that counts as much as how we do it and why we do it. A child brings a wild flower that is bent to give to her mother. Her mother sees this as the greatest gift she could be given, because it was given in love. So too the things we do. We don't have to impress God, who sees our heart. Whatever we do, if we seek to do it in love of God, it is a gift pleasing to the Father. Jesus used the illustration of the widow's mite. She gave her tiny contribution out of a generous heart. For this she was praised. Here is a rule of thumb. Do what you are to do, the way you are to do it, when you are to do it, to the best of your ability for the love of God.
