Thought of the Day October 29, 2020 The armor of God

By 12:17 PM

"Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil." (Ephesians 6, 10-11)
At the beginning of this letter from St. Paul, we are told that God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens. That includes also in the time of temptation. We are not alone in our struggles. God is with us. His grace is sufficient. God reminds us of this at the onset of temptation. We are his beloved.
What we are to do is put on the "armor of God." Too often we foolishly think that we can confront the devil on our own strength. This is exactly what the evil one wants. That is his entrance for success. He separates us from God, so that he can conquer us once again.
What is the "armor of God? Truth: we are the beloved sons and daughters of God and God is with us. Righteousness: Jesus has won the victory for us. Embrace his grace of salvation. Faith: In Jesus I can do all things. Sword of God: his revealed Word. Prayer: we are to commune with God not engage the devil.
