Thought of the Day September 30, 2022 The word of God

By 9:20 AM

Our quote is from St. Jerome, whose feast we celebrate today. "For if, as Paul says, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and if the man who does not know Scripture does not know the power and wisdom of God, then ignorance of Scripture  is ignorance of Christ."

If we want to know Christ and to grow in wisdom, we need to read and reflect on the Scriptures often.  Paul tells us: "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work." It should be a standard practice for those who are seeking to grow spiritually to spend some quality time each day or several times a week reading and reflecting on God's word. It would be helpful to read the scripture readings for next Sunday before going to Mass, so that when we hear them at Mass, we can be more attentive to what God is teaching us through his word that day.
