An old Indian who told his grandson one evening about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said: “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, consideration and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather “Which wolf wins?” the old Indian simply replied: “The one you feed.”

Then there is this quote: “What does it matter if you can win 1000 battles if you cannot win against your own corrupt passions? It doesn’t matter. The real battle is within ourselves.” Blessed Carlo Acutis.

We are all aware of the inner, daily struggles we face. We are not meant to face them alone, even though most of us try. The battle is the Lord’s. It is our choice to “feed” them or to turn things over to the Lord. What does God want me to do? Do that. Focus on the Lord in love and not on the desires.
