God, who loves us because he loves, forgives our many mistakes, when we repent. And then these mistakes are put behind him, so that he sees them no longer. If we follow his example, our lives would be freer and more peaceful. Unfortunately, many times we respond to hurts with anger, resentment, bitterness and sometimes real hate. We don't hate the sin, we hate the person who sinned against us. This hatred can become a trigger which is activated by the slightest action of the other person. Notice the difference between love and hate. Love makes our life serene; hate keeps us agitated and suspicious. One would think that we could see the difference and change course. Only by the grace of God and our openness to that grace.
