Is that your desire and plan? When we are close to Jesus here on earth, will we not be close to him in eternity? To be close to Jesus means to have a personal relationship with Jesus, which is what a disciple's life is. To be close to Jesus means to shun sin. To be close to Jesus means that he is the Lord of one's life. Nothing and No one else matters. He is the first and the last: the first thing I am aware of in the morning and the last thing I am conscious of at night. He is my all in all. This is a process which is not automatic but intentional.
