His approach to life is not something unattainable by us. It is the attitude and desire of one who seeks to be holy and pleasing to the Lord. The focus of his plan of life is the Lord. His life was not perfect. He had his ups and downs. He was ridiculed and persecuted. But in spite of all his difficulties, he chose a plan of action, a way to respond that would deepen his relationship with God. In other words, it is not the externals that make the difference, but our internal attitude and choices.
