Thought of the Day February 20, 2026 Overcome indifference
"During Lent, let us find concrete ways to overcome our indifference." Pope Francis
What is this indifference that we need to try to overcome? It can take on many faces. We can become hardened to the plight of others in need. We can shut our eyes and condone the sins in our hearts and those around us. We can insulate ourselves to the pains of others. Both in the Old and New Testaments there are many examples. In the Old, God chastised the Chosen People for their self-inflicted blindness to the cries of those around them. In the New, the rich man ate lavishly, while he was oblivious of the beggar, Lazarus, at his doorsteps. During this season, we need to ask the Lord to reveal to us our areas of indifference so that we can change our heart. Thus, will God's grace flow into us.
