Spirit: intercessor

St Paul reveals to us in Hebrews 7:25 that Jesus is our intercessor before the throne of the Father.  “And for this reason, he is able, continuously, to save those who approach God through him, since he is ever alive to make intercession on our behalf.” At the same time Paul tells us in Romans 8:26-27 that Spirit also intercedes for us. “And similarly, the Spirit also helps our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself asks on our behalf with ineffable sighing. And he who examines hearts knows what the Spirit seeks, because he asks on behalf of the saints in accordance with God.” Mary and the Saints intercede for us.

What a comfort to know that we have such powerful intercessors who are more concern about our sharing in God’s divine life eternally than we may be at times. That does not relieve us of cooperating with the grace given us, but should stir us to live a life worthy of our calling in gratitude for their intercession.
