Yes, we must keep our eyes on the ultimate goal of our lives, eternal life with God, but if we attentive to the present moment, we could have a misstep. If we keep our eyes on each step we make, we will eventually reach our goal. But if we don't pay attention to the path in front of us, it is possible that we will not see the pitfalls of sin in front of us. How often we can become discouraged because we see how far our goal is!  But if we concentrate on where we are at the moment and take the next step, in time we will get closer to our destination. I am reminded of the times I went hiking on the trails in Colorado. The person with me would always encourage me by saying that it is just around the corner. So I continued to take the next step. Eventually, he was correct. It was just around the corner.
