Thought of the Day May 15, 2020 Living in the Spirit

By 10:09 AM

What does "living in the Spirit" mean?  Gal 5 exhorts us "to live in accord with the spirit and you will not yield to the cravings of the flesh....If you are guided by the spirit, you are not under the law....Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the spirit, let us follow the spirit's lead" (Gal. 5:16,18,24-25).

There is a presumption here underlying these words. The presumption is that one's life has been dramatically and drastically changed. Something has happened to us that we are not the same; a major paradigm shift has occurred.

Living in the Spirit presumes a real and dynamic relationship with Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our lives.  Where before
our life may have been dominated by the world's values, the un-redeemed self and/or the devil, now our life is centered in Jesus.  We have begun to submit our life more and more to him and to yield to the grace-movement of the Holy Spirit.  When this happens, then we have consciously accepted and personally owned the gift of adoption as God's sons and daughters. Come, Holy Spirit, come!
