Thought of the Day August 2, 2022 Let gossip die within you

By 9:47 AM

I had a friend who if he heard something about another couldn't refrain from telling others. It went from his ear through his mouth, rather than in one ear and out the other. The word of God tells us "Have you heard a word against your neighbor? Let it die with you." (Ecclesiastes 19:10) How often we fail in true charity by speaking gossip, by slandering others. We don't think of it as such. Jesus says: "Do to others what you want them to do to you." Do we want people to gossip about us, to slander our good name? Then we should not participate in this sinful act. Paul tells us: "Whatever you say or do, do it in the name of Jesus, giving glory to the Father through him." Can we truly say we are doing it in the name of Jesus, when we speak badly about another. "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." So, the next time we hear something negative about another, some "juicy gossip", let it die within, rather than continue to give it life by speaking it. Then we will be glorifying God, rather than offending him.
