Many people are afraid of death because of what might lie ahead of them. Is it death or judgement that they are afraid of? They are afraid because their life has not been in union with God. Rather than change their life-style, they continue to act the same. As morbid as it may sound, the Desert Fathers would have a skull in their cell, so that they would keep death always before them. Jesus reminds us that we don't know the hour or day of our demise. This is not as important as to live a life pleasing to God, so that when our life's thread is severed, we will be with the Lord.
